***BOTTOM DOLLAR DEAL!!!
Target is a great place to shop for deals, especially because they allow you to ‘stack’ coupons. I will be posting about stacking coupons later this week so keep an eye out for that! They had a few great deals today so I stopped by to pick up a couple of things.
In this past Sunday’s Target ad there was an advertisement for a Free first aid bag when you bought three participating Johnson & Johnson, Neosporin, or Band-Aid products. I had been lucky enough to find coupons in Fred Meyer in one of their ‘blinkie’ coupon dispensers that gave me a Manufacturer Coupon that was good for $3 off of 2 Johnson & Johnson products.
So this is what I did…
Target had small Johnson & Johnson gauze on sale for $1.67 a piece. When I bought two I got $3.00 off with my coupon. This totaled 34¢ for both boxes! In order to get the Free bag I need to buy 3, so I bought two more to use a second coupon and spent another 34¢. And the bag was FREE!
I decided because I was already buying four I should use one more coupon for two more boxes and get a second Free bag (For my sister-in-law). So all in all I bought 6 boxes of gauze for a total of $1.02 -PLUS- I got 2 free First Aid bags with my purchase!
There are still bags left and plenty of First Aid products on sale, if you get a chance run down and check it out! The bag has a hook and can hang for convenience and expands to a fairly large size to fit lots of items. Always keep an eye out for deals like this in local ads, you never know what you will find!

Fred Meyer Coupon Policy - Updated March 2011
The most important tool to success in using coupons is to know the store’s coupon policies. Print these and keep them with you at all times during shopping in case you run into a problem then you can reference the policies immediately.

This policy is intended as a general guide to using coupons at Fred Meyer stores. Because there are many different types of coupons from many different sources, a single coupon policy can’t possibly be all-encompassing. However, these guidelines apply to most coupon situations.

This policy is intended as a general guide to using coupons at Fred Meyer stores. Because there are many different types of coupons from many different sources, a single coupon policy can’t possibly be all-encompassing. However, these guidelines apply to most coupon situations.
Coupon policy is subject to change at any time.
- In general:
- The Fred Meyer store manager has the right to accept, decline, or limit the use of ANY coupon upon view.
- The Fred Meyer store manager has the right to limit the quantity of coupons/items used/purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer or in a single day.
- We accept coupons printed within Fred Meyer ads, mailers, flyers or emails. Customers must present coupons in order to receive the coupon price. Our coupons will state any limitations and/or restrictions.
- We accept all valid, current manufacturer’s coupons. We do not accept expired coupons or manufacturer’s coupons that state they are valid only at another listed retailer (i.e., “Good only at Safeway”).
- Some of the coupons in our ads are Fred Meyer coupons and some are manufacturer’s coupons. The coupon will state if it is a manufacturer’s coupon. Only one manufacturer’s coupon can be used per item.
- Most Catalina coupons (the coupons that print out for you at our check stands) are manufacturer coupons and are stated as such. Catalina coupons that are printed with another retailer name may be accepted at Fred Meyer. Fred Meyer will receive credit for the coupon from the clearinghouse. Note: This only applies to Catalina coupons and not other manufacturer coupons that are designated as valid for use at a specified retailer.
- We accept valid, current print-at-home coupons, including those sent to you in Fred Meyer emails or that you find on fredmeyer.com, facebook.com/fredmeyer and twitter.com/fred_meyer. We do not allow print-at-home coupons that do not require any other purchase.
- We do not double or triple coupons.
- We do not accept competitor's coupons.
- Coupons cannot be combined with certain special pricing programs, including $4 and $10 generic prescription pricing in our pharmacy.
- Amount refunded cannot exceed the cost of the item.
- Customer is responsible for tax on all items, including “Free” items.
Carrs/Safeway Coupon Policy - Updated 2/16/2011
The most important tool to success in using coupons is to know the store’s coupon policies. Print these and keep them with you at all times during shopping in case you run into a problem then you can reference the policies immediately.

1. We will redeem coupons only for the specific items included in our customer's purchase transaction. The redemption value will be as stated on the coupon, unless that value yields a final price for such item less than zero; if application of the redemption value yields a price less than zero, the coupon will be redeemed only for the amount that yields a zero price (our customer cannot net a cash credit or payout from a coupon purchase). http://www.carrsqc.com/IFL/Grocery/Coupons-Policy

Manufacturer and Store Coupons:
2. Paper coupons must be presented at the time of the purchase transaction. We will accept only coupons issued by Safeway or the manufacturer of the relevant product. We will not accept photocopies of coupons.
3. Coupons are subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on the applicable coupon or product.
4. Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer.
5. Coupons have no cash value.
6. Safeway will not accept manufacturer coupons (including, but not limited to, coupons issued through a Catalina or other in-store coupon dispenser) that display another retailer's logo or name unless such coupon is for a specific item with the same product identifiers as the product included in our customer's purchase transaction.
7. We will not accept coupons unless they have an expiration date. Expired coupons will not be accepted.
8. We will not accept coupons that, in the determination of Safeway personnel, appear distorted or blurry or are altered in any way.
9. Sales taxes will be applied in accordance with the law of the applicable state, regardless of any coupon or other discount that may apply to the purchase transaction.
10. All applicable bottle and packaging deposits on the purchased and free items must be paid by the customer.
11. Safeway reserves the right to refuse any coupons at its discretion.
12. Purchase reward thresholds (if any) will be calculated based upon customer's final price (after deducting Club Card savings and all other discounts and savings) before deductions for any manufacturer coupons. As an example (and not as an offer), if a $10 minimum purchase is required for a customer reward, a customer's order at full retail would be $12, a Club Card discount of $1.75 applies, and a manufacturer's coupon of $1 applies, the customer would be given credit for a $10.25 purchase, and would be eligible for the reward (assuming compliance with all other requirements) even though the customer's cash payment would be only $9.25. The manufacturer's coupon would not be deducted from the total for purposes of determining reward eligibility. Purchase reward thresholds (if any) will be calculated based upon customer’s final price (after deducting Club Card savings, and all other discounts)
13. References to a threshold purchase requirement will exclude purchases of: Beer, Wine, Spirits, Tobacco Products, Fuel, All Fluid Items in the Refrigerated Dairy Section (including Fluid Dairy and Dairy Substitutes), Prescription Items and Co-payments, Bus/Commuter Passes, Fishing/Hunting Licenses and Tags, Postage Stamps, Money Orders, Money Transfers, Ski Tickets, Amusement Park Tickets, Event Tickets, Lottery Tickets, Phone Cards, Gift Cards, and Gift Certificates; also excluded are: Bottle Deposits, Redemption Values, and Sales Taxes.
Internet Printed Coupons:
14. We gladly accept internet printed coupons. The same manufacturer and store coupon rules above apply to all internet printed coupons.
15. Internet printed coupons must be capable of scanning at checkout.
16. Internet printed coupons must have serial numbers and must follow an industry-standard format.
17. Manufacturer internet printed coupons must clearly indicate that they are a manufacturer coupon and must have a valid manufacture address on the printed coupon.
18. We will not accept "free product" internet printed manufacturer coupons.
Load to Card Club Coupons:
19. Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are automatically redeemed at the time of purchase after the club card number has been entered. All other coupon policies above apply to electronic coupons that are loaded to a club card.
Doubling of Coupons:
20. Check with your local store regarding 'double coupon' advertised promotions where customers will receive double the coupon face value off the regular or club card price up to the advertised limit. Not all locations offer double coupon promotions. Limitations and restrictions for double coupon promotions may change at any time. Changes will be posted in store only.
Coupon Stacking:
21. Safeway does not allow a customer to redeem two or more manufacturer coupons against the same item in a single transaction.
22. Coupon stacking policies for manufacturer coupons apply to paper and electronic coupons that have been loaded to a club card.
23. If a customer presents two coupons for the same item in a single transaction, Safeway will give the highest discount for that item, subject to the terms of the applicable offer and/or coupon.
Rainchecks:
24. Rainchecks expire ninety (90) days from the date issued and will not be accepted at any Safeway store after that time.

Catalina Coupons
‘What in the world is a Catalina Coupon?!’
Let me explain…
A Catalina Coupon is a coupon that is printed at the register when you check out. The neat little machine that gives you coupons good for your next shopping trip! But there are secrets about these coupons that most people don’t know, and most cashiers don’t know either..
When you receive a Catalina coupon in the right hand upper corner it usually states that this is a Manufacturer’s Coupon. This is where they become a golden ticket. Because they are a manufacturer’s coupon they are accepted ANYWHERE! Yes, that’s right, ANYWHERE.
If a store prints Catalina coupons, they will accept them.
The company prints their logo on any and all Catalina coupons that are printed from their stores, but because this is a manufacturer’s coupon you can redeem it at other stores and they will still get credit for them!
Example:
I bought Kool-Aid packets from Carrs/Safeway which were on sale for 20¢ a piece. I had received a Catalina coupon from Fred Meyer for 55¢ off when I bought ten of them.
When I gave the coupon to the cashier she told me I couldn’t use it because it said Fred Meyer on it. So I informed her that I had read the stores **Coupon Policies and called the manager ahead of time and they both stated they will accept them as long as the coupon said ‘Manufacturer Coupon‘ on it and was the exact same item as they had in their store.
When she swiped the coupon over the bar scanner it took the coupon no questions asked!
THIS WORKS!
**Be sure to read all store coupon policies and call the store if you have any questions or just to confirm that they will accept them. This will avoid any problems at the register ahead of time.
So this brings me back to the ‘Coupon Exchange’ at Fred Meyers. Is it worth it to take a couple of minutes to see what you can find? YES IT IS!!!
This basket is chucked full of unwanted and unused Catalina Coupons that can be redeemed at other stores and locations. They also have later expiration dates that will outlast a lot of coupons you ge in the newspaper so they're worth holding on to!
Take a few extra minutes and see what you find, I’ve gotten free items out of this basket on more than one occasion.
Happy Saving!

The Proof Is In The Pudding!!!
Following up on my previous blog about finding coupons I received from the Coppertone Sunscreen bottles at Fred Meyer I went to Target and picked up a few for nearly nothing out of pocket!
Each travel size sunscreen cost $1.09 at in store price. I had a coupon for $1.00 off ANY size which made them 9 cents a piece! Total for all 17 bottles I paid $1.53!!! That’s 92% savings!
As you can see there are two different types of sunscreen in the picture. The reason for that would be on the coupon itself. Some of the coupons will say ‘Any Size Coppertone Sport Sunscreen’ Which are 30 SPF. Others say ‘Any size Coppertone Sunscreen’. One will only be good for the ‘sport’ sunscreen and some will be good for any type. The pink bottle is the baby sunscreen and is 50 SPF. Be sure to read your coupons thoroughly before using them to avoid mix ups at the register.

'Where do you find your coupons?!'
The most frequent question I'm asked on a regular basis is: 'Where do you find your coupons?' Great question! So here's the answer: EVERYWHERE!
No, literally, you can find them everywhere!
The basic starting places for coupons are:
- Coupons.com
- Smartsource.com
- Redplum.com
- & of course your Sunday newspaper!
These websites may ask you to download an application to print their coupons. I've been using these sites for years and I have had no problems with viruses caused by these downloads.
Other places to find savings are as follows:
- In store ads: Stores will put out ads regularly displaying in store sales and special pricing. If you're lucky they will have in store coupons that can be 'stacked' (AKA Combined) with Manufacturer's Coupons.
- Store websites: Some stores will have online coupons that are printable and again can be stacked with manufacturer's coupons.
- Store Mailing Lists: Some stores such as Target will periodically mail out coupons to shoppers and can be signed up for on their websites. In some cases you will need their in-store club card to qualify for these mailing but most memberships are free and do not require you to spend any minimum amount to qualify.
- The 'Coupon Exchange': Stores such as Fred Meyer hang a shopping basket by their entrance where shoppers will drop coupons that they do not plan on using for others to take advantage of. I've gotten items free from taking the time to go through these so it's worth it! Also, drop the coupons you do not plan on using for others to take advantage of, call it a trade.
- Online coupon clipping services: There are websites that will do all of the coupon clipping for you and even sell whole uncut paper inserts for your own use. Please keep in mind when you first start out I do not suggest jumping to this option because it can be overwhelming. This is something to work up to, and you may never need to use these services!
But the best place to look for coupons are...
ON THE ITEMS THEMSELVES!!!
Some items will have coupons attached to them that can be used for other items. Example: In the photo above there was a coupon attached to the cereal box that stated if you bought two of the listed cereals you would receive a $1 credit towards fresh fruit! The best part about this coupon? It can be used for ANY of the listed cereals. Which means you can remove it and use it for another cereal you my like better or a cereal that is ON SALE! Coupons like this also take the full $1 off of your bill so if you fruit falls short of $1 the coupon has now become a money maker for your other items!
Another Example...
This Coppertone Sunscreen had a coupon on it for $1 manufacturer's coupon for ANY size sunscreen.
Any size means, ANY SIZE, meaning travel size....
I knew Target was selling their Coppertone travel size sunscreens for $1.09 and the coupon above did not state that it was only valid at Fred Meyers so that means I can use it at Target. After my coupon my sunscreen is only 9¢!!!
